As Israeli military attacks on the Palestinian Gaza Strip continue, the United Nations issued a statement strongly condemning the attacks, stating that the evacuation centers and other locations for residents have been affected. The UN emphasized that "intentional attacks on civilians are considered war crimes." The Israeli military has been carrying out daily attacks on the Gaza Strip, and the Middle Eastern satellite TV channel Al Jazeera reported that at least 16 people were killed in an attack early on the 30th. Local health authorities reported that the death toll has risen to 2,273 since the Israeli military resumed attacks on March 18. In this context, the OHCHR (United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights) issued a statement on the 29th, condemning the Israeli military for attacking homes and evacuation centers in Gaza. According to the statement, between March 18 and April 27, there were 259 attacks on homes and 99 attacks on tents where residents were sheltering, with most cases resulting in casualties, including women and children.

Attacks on Civilians are War Crimes

The statement emphasized that approximately 40% of the attacks on tents took place in areas designated by the Israeli military as civilian evacuation zones. High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet strongly condemned these actions, stating, "Deliberately attacking civilians who are not directly involved in combat is considered a war crime."
On the other hand, Israel has repeatedly claimed that the Islamic organization Hamas is using civilians as human shields.
