In May 2024, Pope Francis of the Catholic Church recognized the miracle of Blessed Carlo Acutis (hereafter referred to as Mr. Acutis), a devout believer who passed away at the age of 15 due to leukemia in 2006.
In the Catholic Church, after passing away, there are stages to becoming a saint: 'Servant of God,' 'Venerable,' and 'Blessed.' The investigations for each of these stages are conducted by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. The Congregation...
In Catholicism, saints include the early apostles of Jesus Christ, such as "Saint Peter," regarded as the first pope of the Catholic Church, and "Saint Paul," an apostle of early Christianity who contributed to the New Testament. In the 13th century, "Saint Francis of Assisi" founded the Franciscan Order with a commitment to poverty and humility throughout his life. In the 17th century, "Saint Teresa of Ávila," a reformer of the Carmelite Order, left mystical writings. Moving into the 20th century, "Saint John Paul II," the 264th Pope of Rome, and "Saint Teresa of Calcutta," also known as Mother Teresa, known for her work with the poor, were canonized.
Carlo Acutis, expected to become a saint in the early 21st century, devoutly embraced the Catholic faith from a young age. After receiving his First Holy Communion, he attended Mass frequently and sometimes invited adults around him to join. At school, he advocated for children with disabilities and those facing bullying. He also offered charity to people living on the streets at the entrance of an association.
Believing in miracles related to the Eucharist, Acutis used his computer knowledge to create a website documenting Eucharistic miracles from around the world. The site was translated into multiple languages. In 2009, Acutis passed away, but his activities became widely known afterward, earning him the nickname "God's influencer." His efforts to promote awareness of Eucharistic miracles have expanded, leading to exhibitions in dioceses worldwide.
Carlo Acutis' body was transferred to Assisi a year after his death and is displayed there along with other relics associated with him. In 2018, Pope Francis honored Acutis' achievements by recognizing him as a "Venerable."
In 2020, he was bestowed the title of "Blessed" for reportedly healing a child with a congenital disease. Over 40,000 people attended the beatification ceremony where Acutis lay in repose wearing sneakers.
Now recognized for a second miracle, Carlo Acutis, known as the "God's influencer," is expected to become a "Saint." Even after his death, Acutis continues to influence people and inspire them to deepen their faith. His canonization ceremony is eagerly anticipated.
